Cardiology

Cardiology is the area of medicine that deals directly with disease or abnormality of the heart. These conditions can be severely debilitating and sometimes life-threatening, but often manageable—thanks to advances in modern medicine. At Bukit Tinggi Medical Centre, our experienced cardiologists specialise in a wide range of private heart treatments, delivering care from some of the best heart specialists at the forefront of clinical care in the region.

Heart Specialists

We offer a comprehensive range of cardiology care for adults and children, from diagnosis to treatments. Our services include diagnostics such as electrocardiography and stress tests, and advanced facilities using our cardiac catheterisation labs. Our range of treatments for heart conditions include fitting of pacemakers, angioplasty, and heart surgery undertaken by our leading team of specialist heart surgeons, cardiologists, and clinical staff.

Cardiologists and Heart Specialists at BTMC, Malaysia

Cardiologists are doctors who have acquired further knowledge and training in diagnosing, preventing, and treating heart diseases. They detect, assess and treat patients with heart and blood vessel defects and disorders, commonly known as the cardiovascular system. They also work with patients who have suffered from heart attacks, heart murmurs, coronary artery disease, hypertension, and heart defects. They examine and meet with patients daily, request and interpret test results, and treat the condition.

Why Would You See a Cardiologist at the Hospital?

If you are experiencing shortness of breath, palpitations or dizziness, a cardiologist can establish if a heart condition is a leading cause. These symptoms may indicate abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmias) or coronary artery disease.

If you have high cholesterol and high blood pressure, take action and get checked by a cardiologist.

If you are a man younger than 55 or a woman younger than 65, who has had a heart attack or stroke, your family members should consider seeing a cardiologist as well. A cardiologist can assess their heart disease risk and provide a plan for regular health screening and risk reduction.

At Bukit Tinggi Medical Centre (BTMC), our cardiologist will ask you several general health questions and some specific questions related to the reason for your visit. A physical examination follows, and if necessary, the doctor might arrange for further testing. The cardiologist might prescribe medication or make recommendations to your primary care provider afterwards.

Even if you do not have a diagnosed heart condition, it is recommended to see a cardiologist at least once a year for prevention purposes. If you have a diagnosed heart condition, you want to consider visiting your cardiologist once every three months.

How Do Heart Doctors Check Your Condition?

The cardiologist at our centre will run tests to diagnose your heart condition further, which include:

  1. Blood tests to check whether elements in your blood may point to heart failure or other diseases. Your blood test result offers clues about your heart health. Your cholesterol levels and other substances in your blood can say something about it. For example, high levels of LDL cholesterol in your blood can signify that you are at an increased risk of having a heart attack.
  2. An electrocardiogram (ECG) records the electrical activity of your heart to check for problems. Besides blood tests and a chest X-ray, ECG is a quick and painless test that records the electrical signals in the heart. It can tell if the heart is beating too fast or too slow.

How Do Cardiologists Treat Their Patients?

Cardiologists can treat chest pain, high blood pressure and heart failure, problems with your heart valves, blood vessels and other heart and vascular issues. They run tests like electrocardiograms, echocardiograms and CTs (computed tomography) to diagnose heart problems or defects.

While cardiologists can do multiple things related to the cardiovascular system, they do not perform heart surgeries. Cardiologists take care of patients' needs up to the point where heart surgery is needed. Cardiac surgeons are the ones who perform heart surgery. Cardiologists specialise in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases but may perform specific procedures, such as heart catheterisations, angioplasty, or inserting a pacemaker.

BTMC offers an array of treatments for heart complications through our leading team of experienced cardiologists and other medical staff. At our centre, patients can rest assured that they are in safe hands and are well cared for. Contact us now for enquiry.
